Chalet Le Charmieux

Although it is built in traditional style, this is a contemporary chalet which offers the best of modern comforts and everything you need for a care-free stay in the French Alps.

All year long, this comfortable property offers a range of equipment and entertainment for the whole family and all generations: a games room with home cinema, two bridge tables (with cases and bidding boxes!), lots of books and board games, and a Sonos bluetooth speaker for listening to your favourite music. For wellness breaks, there are two yoga mats (with straps and posture bricks), an acupressure mat, a balance cushion and two dumbbells.

Outside, you can choose between petanque balls, swings, diabolo, rackets with foam balls, skittles and skipping ropes.

About the property...

Built over three floors, this sunny west-facing chalet has plenty of room for 12 people.

The ground floor is dedicated to younger visitors - there's a bedroom with two sets of bunk beds as well as a home cinema and games room, a shower room and a toilet. There's also a laundry and storage room on this level.

Upstairs, you'll find the open plan living area, with a well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar, the dining table and benches and a sunny sitting area. There are plenty of windows to make the most of those stunning views and an open fire. This area also opens on to two large furnished terraces which are connected by a balcony, so that you can follow the sun from morning to evening.

There are four more bedrooms on the top floor, two of which have large double beds. The other two each have two twin beds, that can be put together if you wish. This floor also has a bathroom, a shower room and a separate toilet to keep queues to a minimum.

About the area ...

Ideally located between Le Grand Bornand and Chinaillon, and with the ski bus stopping just 150m from your chalet, you'll have plenty of choice of where to ski.

You'll find more challenge in the nearby resorts of La Clusaz and Manigod, which are all served by the bus network, so skiers and boarders of all abilities are well catered for. Boarders will also appreciate Le Grand Bornand's snowpark, which is rated amongst the top five in France.

Any non-skiers in your party will find plenty to do - try snowshoeing, ice-skating, horse-drawn carriage rides, paragliding, swimming or pamper yourself at one of the area's spas.

Le Grand Bornand boasts Famille Plus status, thanks to its great programme of activities for younger visitors, making it the perfect choice for family holidays.

In the summer, the snow melts leaving bright green pastures in its place, Le Grand Bornand is a great choice for a holiday at the heart of nature.

Chalet Le Charmieux is particularly well-placed to make the most of the mountain trails which are popular with walkers and cyclists, and guide books and maps are provided so that you will never be stuck for somewhere to go. If you don't fancy the uphill hike, take the lift and come back down at your own pace.

If you're visiting with small children, there's a lovely stream and a small pool just below the chalet, where they can play safely with supervision. It's a great place to cool off in the heat of the summer and only a short walk away - look out for wild strawberries and raspberries on the way!

Le Grand Bornand is also home to a nine-hole golf course and an open-air swimming complex with grassy areas perfect for picnics. If you fancy more of a challenge there's also a climbing school, a tree-top adventure park, via ferrata, canyoning, white-water rafting and paragliding nearby.

In August, the International Children's Festival takes over the town, when the fun includes puppet shows, circus workshops and a grand firework finale - book early to avoid disappointment!
